Questions & Answers
Is my financial data safe when I upload a bank statement?
Yes, completely. The Expense Analyzer processes your bank statement entirely within your browser using JavaScript. Your data is never uploaded to any server. No account is needed, nothing is stored externally, and closing your browser tab clears everything. Your financial data stays 100% private.
Which bank statement formats are supported?
The Expense Analyzer auto-detects CSV exports from Indian banks (HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak) and any Generic CSV from any bank worldwide. If your bank format isn't auto-detected, a column mapper lets you manually map Date, Description, and Amount fields. You can also add expenses one by one without uploading any file.
How do I categorize my expenses automatically?
The analyzer uses keyword matching to auto-categorize common transactions (e.g., 'Swiggy' → Food, 'Amazon' → Shopping, 'SBI Home Loan' → EMI). You can review and correct any auto-categorizations. The more you use it, the better your categories are refined.
What spending categories are available?
Common categories include Food & Dining, Groceries, Transportation, Shopping, Entertainment, Healthcare, Utilities, EMI/Loans, Subscriptions, Investments, and Miscellaneous. You can create custom categories to match your specific spending patterns.
